- Setting up a WiFi base station without a broadband internet connection
- Posted by BAleiHi on November 20th, 2004
I just got a Microsoft WiFi kit thinking that I could use the laptop
card to wirelessly talk to my new Canon iP4000R printer and eventually
set up the base station on a desktop. But I don't have (or want) a
broadband internet connection. I just want the computers and printer
to talk to each other. I don't care (right now) about sharing an
internet connection. Has anyone set this hardware up to work this
way? (ie. without a broadband internet connection?) Thanks in
advance,
Bob Alei

Sure no problem, just don't connect the WAN port (the port that connects
to the Internet) of your broadband router to anything. The LAN ports
(the Ethernet and WiFi ports that connect your computers inside the
house) will continue to work regardless.
