Split Cat-5 cable
Posted by Theo on October 25th, 2003

I recently set up a small network to share a cable connection between
2 computers in a house. In the room that doesn't have the router, my
friend wants to be able to use his laptop as well as his pc that's
hooked up to the network both on the network, as it is now he is
manually plugging the line between the 2 computers. Is there some sort
of splitter I can use to give each computer internet access?

Thanks

It's called a hub. A switch will also work.

Although a switch would be faster, if you are getting 100mbps access, and
actually use the LAN part of your router for typical LAN activities other
than looking at web sites.

It's not likely to make a detectable difference with only 2 or 3 +/-
computers as he says he has.
