Can ping Internet but browser doesn't work
Posted by watha on November 21st, 2007

I have a Dell PC and a wireless Internet hookup. The wireless
interface software says I have a connection, and I can ping sites on
the Internet. But my browser won't go to any site. I can't figure
out why. Any ideas? Thanks.

It may or may not be the solution, but it resolves a common problem on
machines displaying symptoms like yours. You will need to try it at
some stage if only to discount it from the list of things to try.

Those are both valid possibilities, but first check for leftover proxy
settings from a previous connection. That is by far the most common reason
for 'ping but no browse'
