cannot access shared folders/files
Posted by Humphrey_Bogart on October 18th, 2005

Hi All,
I have just recently re-installed both my PC's from scratch (formatted hard
drives to NTFS)
After doing this I shared certain folders, But when I try and access them on
the other PC I get a message saying \\Mypc\My Documents is not accessible.
You might not have permission to use this network resource.Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have accsee permission. The
network path was not found.

When I shared the folders/Files (My Pictures for example) I set all the
share permissions as I did before but for some reason I get this error.
I then put my storage H/D's back in,which were shared before (one in each
PC) and they are accessible on the network.
please help somebody because this is driving me crazy.
cheers
HB

Bogie,

Are both computers attached, as peers, to the same side of the Zywall?

Any other firewalls involved? Maybe part of a security package, like your
antivirus?
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html>
Also, check for registry setting restrictanonymous.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/07/restrictanonymous-and-your-server.html>

If no help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer.
Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp>

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

p.s. Your "Maltese Falcon" rocked. ;-)

Hi All,
Read up on a few things and eventually came to the solution that it was a
security setting in the folder properties,
Basically what I did was add "Everyone" in the security tab and then set the
permissions.
This solved it.
Thanx for your help chuck most appreciated
