We have a simple network running Small Business Server 2003 and with 3 XP
SP2 PCs connected to it. There is also a wireless access point to enable a
wireless CE device to access the network. The device can connect to the WAP
and I can ping the WAP (IP Address 192.168.1.1) and the server (192.168.1.2)
from the device successfully. The problem is that I cannot ping any of the 3
XP PCs. My first thought was that it was something to do with Windows
Firewall, so I tried to disable it. At first it wouldn't let me because it
said settings were controlled by Group Policy, but eventually I found the
Group Policy Settings for Windows Firewall and disabled it. On the XP PC the
connection no longer says 'Firewalled' but I have no Advanced Tab so I am
not really sure if I have done it correctly. What I would like to do is
disable the group settings and control the firewall from the XP PC (or
install a different firewall to the XP one.) However, it has not helped
because I still cannot ping the networked PCs.
My 2 questions are 1) Have I disabled the firewall correctly? (once I
have proved it is the firewall I will re-enable it and set it up properly)
and 2) If it is not the firewall, what else could it be? Thanks for any help
