- "Connect directly to another computer" unavailable for New Connect
- Posted by Tom200021 on May 6th, 2006
I am trying to set up an ethernet connection between my laptop and home pc.
Both computers run windows xp (home, professional respectively). There is no
problem with the cable connection because both computers sending and
recieving informatiom. The problem is that when setting up the "New
Connection WIzard" the laptop does not allow you to "Connect directly to
another computer" (the option is faded). Could someone tell me how I can get
the laptop to make this option available so I can set up the simple network
between the pc and the laptop. I want to use the network to play multiplayer
games offline between the laptop and the pc and also to transfer files from
the pc to the laptop. Any advice would be much appreciated.

You don't need to run the New Connection Wizard. Just run the Network
Setup Wizard. It's under Network Tasks as "Set up a home or small
office network".
