over cable?

basicaly just want to be able to share folders and files between computers so
i can transfer files from old pc to new one. and the program settings. i
tried Xps transfer wizzard b4 with zip drives. very confusing

OK - you should be fine, as long as you set up the IP addresses correctly,
and enable file/printer sharing exceptions in your firewall. Once you can
ping by IP, see if you can ping by name, and then see if you can connect
using a UNC path or mapped drive to a share on the other computer.
The File & Settings Transfer Wizard should work fine over a network
connection, IIRC.
