Hello All,

I have a couple WinXP pro systems. They're both on a LAN. They both
have valid ip addresses and everything else in regards to the NIC works
fine. (ie Internet connection, etc). They're also both supposed to be
members of the same Workgroup. However one computer, let's call him
Ralph, can't connect to the shares available in the Workgroup anymore.
At one time Ralph could and now Ralph cannot. If I go to the other
system (Jerry) and open My Network Places. I can view all the
computers in the workgroup and to my wonder...Ralph is supposedly among
the systems in the Workgroup. So...Jerry believes Ralph is in the
Workgroup, but Ralph does not so Ralph is basically trying to log back
into the Workgroup, even though, according to the Workgroup he is
already logged in.

I have seen this time and time again with MS Workgroups and I'm tired
of it frankly. If joining a domain is not an option right now, what
can I do to resolve this error. There has to be a better way to remove
systems from a Workgroup listing. Any info would be more than helpful,
poor Ralph is all by his lonesome.

This kind of problem is usually caused by bad firewall configuration on the
misbehaving computer. Disable Microsoft firewalls, uninstall all others;
fix the network, then re-enable or re-install firewall software.

Have a look in computer management, event viewer and see if there are any
errors logged. I have similar problem that I haven't been able to fix, the
error code for mine is 8032. There are known problems surrounding
workgroups. My problem shows up even on freshly installed XP pro systems. I
just reformated two computers to try and get to the bottom if the cause but
its still there.
