Hosting Web Sites
Posted by AM on October 4th, 2005

Hi,

I would like to host two different web sites on my Win XP SP2 PC (e.g.
www.domain1.com and www.domain2.com).

First of all, is this possible? If so, how do I go about doing this?
I noticed "Advanced" tab in IIS manager which we can add Host Header Name.
Is this where we set up multiple web sites? If so, where do we specify which
folder contains which web site?

Thanks
Alex

Hi,
Host headers is used when you have 2 or more web sites with differnet
domain names that are using the same IP address. I assume that your box only
has 1 IP address assigned so this would be the way forward. Within each
website properties you can set the home directory - this is where you point
it to different locations for it's files.

Take a look at the following - while they are not specifically for XP the
configuration steps are the same:

IIS 6.0 - 324287 HOW TO: Use Host Header Names to Configure Multiple Web
Sites in Internet Information Services 6.0
or
IIS 5.0 - 308163 How To Use Host Header Names to Configure Multiple Web
Sites in Internet Information Services 5.0

Hope that helps,

Cheers
