- I can't go to websites via Address Bar! Help, please??
- Posted by jay on April 19th, 2006
I had a couple of pop-ups show up last night. . . I closed them and shut down
for the night. Today, when I turned my comp on, I cannot go to any site I
type into my Address bar (Enter and the Go button both do the same thing). I
can, however, click on links, create favorites (with their URL's intact),
etc. I just can't go to sites I type in manually. I have done a virus scan,
and have uninstalled and reinstalled explorer via my add/remove programs
option. What is wrong???? Someone please help me!!

You might just try a disk cleanup and remember to fix file system errors. Do
not Scan for and attempt recovery of Bad sectors. It takes days. Just go to
your C drive properties and run both tools as I said above and then a disc
clean up. This will clear your temporary Internet files. This has worked for
me when I've have had a similar problem. Regular check-ups like this are good
for a frequently used system which people tend to forget. 2 to 4 times a
month is a good idea.
Good luck.

Second, see if problems with the recent Windows Update KB908531 is the

I believe HP and Nvidia have updated drivers to address the problems
with their software. Check on their sites.

Try to reset IE settings.
1.. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2.. Click the Programs tab.
3.. Click the Reset Web Settings button.
