I keep loosing connection
Posted by Stanzy on February 15th, 2006

I keep getting the local area connection message in the lower corner of my
screen. It keeps telling me that a network cable is unplugged. It pops up and
then i loose connection with Aol instant messanger and yahoo messenger, but
they seem to be the only programs effected by it. My internet explorer still
works fine. i am running through a wireless router but everything is
connected and i checked all connection and they are all fine. I dunno what
the problem could be but any help would be greatly appriciated. It is very
annoying being constantly booted.

There are 2 main causes:

1. Speed Autodetection issues with the NIC:

2. Router/Internet Issues -
Check the log on your router to see how often you connect/disconnect
from the internet. I have seen three people (at my office) who has
their internet disconnect/reconnect about every 4 minutes (PPPOE). The
IM software will notice this more than the web browsers (the solution
was to upgrade the firmware on their routers)

Have a pleasant day.
