Inability to share folders
Posted by billtc on January 11th, 2008

Hello,
I have a Win XP Pro and Win XP Home machine networked and connected to a
router for Internet access. I am able to share folders on the XP pro machine
and access them from the XP Home machine. However, when I share folders on
the Home machine, I am unable to access them from the Pro machine.
Furthermore, the shared documents folder on the Home machine doesn't even
show up in Network Places on the Pro machine (I have verified that the Shared
Documents folder is indeed shared over the network).

If I share a folder in Windows Explorer on the Home machine, the shared
folder shows up in Network Places on the Pro machine, but when I attempt to
access it, I get a message that the folder is unavailable and "you may not
have access to this folder... check with the administrator. There is
insufficient space on the server to execute the command". If I share the
folder by copying it to the shared documents folder, it doesn't even show up
on the Network Places on the Pro machine, though I can usually "force" it to
show up by refreshing the page and going into Entire Network. But I still am
unable to access it.

I downloaded a Word document from Microsoft that contained an overview of
sharing and a number of troubleshooting steps to try, but none of them seemed
to work. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
