Network adaptor status always equal "Acquiring network address"

Hi,

I am Wondering why the status is always this. My Network works but it
this seems odd to me.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Since we know nothing about your network, you can't get a specific
answer. It would seem that you have your machine set to get its IP
address from a DHCP server and either don't have a DHCP server set up
or your machine can't find it. Without more information from you, it is
impossible to give you an accurate answer. Go here to see the kind of
details you should include in your next post:

I have a netgear router. I have checked and see DDNS is not active.
Where would I look to find out if I'm set up to get address from DHCP?
I'm running XP. Also this condition wasen't always so but I can't say
if/what I did to make it start happening.
I'm sorry I am weak in this area.

Is this a wireless connection? I had this behavior with a Zyxel
wireless adapter, and I _think_ it was due to both Zyxel and XP trying
to manage the connection. At least, it seems to be gone since I
stopped the Zyxel app from auto-starting.

Nope. This 1 is directly into the router. Wonder if I should change
TCP/IP settings to DHCP

One of the PCs in our network just started exhibiting the same problem stuck
on Acquiring network addres". We have it connected to a Linksys Vonage RT31P2
router. Other computers on the network are working OK and are able to get
DHCP.
- I have connected a different Ethernet cable which is on a router port that
is definitely working. Same problem.
- I bypassed a hub and went directly into the router. same problem.
- I installed a second Ethernet card. same problem.
- - I suspected a Windows Update might have caused the issue. I rolled back
the system config several days, then two weeks, to days when the netwrok was
working OK. Same problem.
- Tried disabled Norton Internet security. same problem

Any suggestions ? maybe need to reinstall Windows.
