Posted by def-j@sbcglobal.net on September 26th, 2005

hi,

i just got a laptop from my mom which is actually her old laptop that
she recieved from her job. it's running windows 2000 professional. my
problem is that i clicked on her work network and accidentally changed
a setting, i think there were two boxes, one that is checked if its a
home network and one that is checked if its a work network. anyways, i
switched it from work to home. now when i turn on the computer and it
asks for that password her old password doesn't work and i have no way
of getting past the password prompt. can anyone help me?

Sounds like you changed the "Domain/Workgroup" setting, in which case you
need a password for either the local Administrator account or another local
account on the laptop. Only the folks that run her work network will be
able to give you those.
