- Network Setup wizard problem
- Posted by haris73 on February 18th, 2006
Hi,
I have 2 computers, and I tried to setup home network. One is P3 with Win98,
other one is P4 with WinXP Home Edition. Both have built-in Ethernet
adapters. I plugged in network cable (Cat. 5). I tried to configure home
network using the one with WinXP Home Edition. Network wizard reports the
following message:
The wizard found disconnected network hardware.
Message: The network connections listed below are disconnected. Plug in your
network cables or otherwise connect your network hardware and then click Next.
Local Area Connection SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
The device manager reports that the device is working properly. What could
be a problem?
Thanks,

Are you connecting the two computers directly to each other, without
using a network hub, switch, or router?
If so, you need a crossover Ethernet cable. A regular Ethernet cable
won't work, and the WinXP computer will say that then network is
disconnected.

Hi Steve,
It was the connection 2 computers directly to each other. It was a cable
problem. I had a wrong cable. Now it works - with crossower Ethernet, as you
said.
Thanks a lot!
