- Networking wired and wireless computer with file sharing
- Posted by Gary on April 17th, 2006
Sorry about the blank one. Everything was working fine until I replaced the
hard drive on my wired computer and reloaded windows on my wireless computer.
Both computers are using Windows XP and are both connected to a router which
is connected to the cable modem. I have no personel or any other firewalls
enabled. Both computers are able to connect to the internet and can see
themselves on the network but cannot view each other. They are both using
the same workgroup name and different computer names. I have read the PChuck
article but it did not address my issue. As I stated before, I have in the
past networked these two computers without issues so I don't know why I am
having the problem now.

There's always the possibility that you have a new problem, that hasn't been
documented yet. Or it's possible that the articles need to be rewritten. And
I'm working on using new diagnostic tools, too.
Why not provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, so we
can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Gary,
To start, GarySony has a bridge in place. Is that intentional, or was it maybe
created by replacing Windows and running the network setup wizard? Diagnosing
your problem will be a lot easier without the bridge.

I don't know what happened between last night and this morning but both
computers can see each other and are file sharing. I will delete the bridge
since I don't need it. Thank you so much for the time you spent.
