Orinoco PC Card recognized as "Generic Memory Card"
Posted by mikecsm@gmail.com on November 16th, 2005

I am getting a bit frustrated with this problem and hope somebody can
provide an answer. I have a desktop with a PCMCIA PCI adapter. I am
trying to use an Orinoco silver PC card to access a wireless access
point. The problem is that when I insert the card, Windows recognizes
the card as a "Generic Memory Card" not as the Orinoco card that it
should. Everywhere I read says Windows will automatically recognize the
card. I have even tried installing drivers and that doesn't work. I'm
running XP SP2. The card works in my laptop. Any ideas?

It is not what you think it is? Windows XP is very good at determining what
kind of card you just inserted into the computer.
