Other computers can't see my laptop, but laptop can see them
Posted by stufff on December 7th, 2005

An interesting problem here. I have four computers on my network, three
desktops and one laptop. My laptop can see the other computers on the
network, ping them, browse them, and in general interact with them. The other
computers, however, can not see my laptop. I can not browse my laptop's files
from another computer, when I ping my laptop (by hostname and even IP
address) the request times out. So, my laptop can interact with all the other
computers on my network, but the other computers can not interact with my
laptop, even when using IP instead of the laptop's hostname.

I don't have a software firewall, nor do I have Windows firewall turned on.
I thought maybe I had disabled an essential service on my laptop, but it is
now running all the same services as my desktop and there is still no change.
All computers are in the same workgroup and the same subnet (192.168.2.10X).
I can't think of anything else, to do, so if anyone has any suggestions I
would really apreciate it.

I have a 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Cable/DSL Router with all the
latest firmware.
