- Problem with cross-over cable
- Posted by BB99 on May 14th, 2006
I'm trying to connect 2 computers with a cross-over cable, but having no
luck. The first machine is running XP and is connected to the web. the
second is running Win98, and I don't care whether it gains net access or not.
i just want to transfer files to the 2nd pc from the first using the x/o
cable.
Can anyone walk me through the process, or tell me where in XP I can find
the directions / tutorial?
TIA
Bruce

You run the network setup wizard on the XP system and when asked, make a
floppy that is then used to put files on the 98 machine so they can talk to
each other.

Hi,
You can try using the Network Setup Wizard. Take a look at the following
article:

Good idea!
Much of that article doesn't apply here. A direct cable connection
uses a serial or parallel cable, not a crossover Ethernet cable.

You can skip over any instructions that mention having to
install NetBEUI. As long as both computers use TCP/IP, you
should be fine.
Good luck
