Ok, so here goes...I have a Dell Dimension 3000 running XP SP 2 and a Dell
Inspiron 6000 running same. I have been having a problem with the desktop on
my network. When I attempt to access the desktop from the laptop I get an
error message stating that '//Jeffdell is not accessible. You may not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions. The Server service is not
started.' The desktop is connected directly to a Linksys router and the
laptop connects wirelessly to the router. I have cable internet service from
Time/Warner (however the problem began quite a while ago when I had Adelphia
cable internet and a different router.) The network name is HOME NETWORK and
each computer is named individually. I have tried numerous times to set up a
network using the Windows Network Wizard utility, to no avail. The desktop
does not show up on my network neighborhood but does show up on my workgroup
computers. I am going to be going back to school in the near future and can
no longer kive with the inconvenience of not being able to access my printer
and such from my laptop. I went to PChuck's site and compiled all of the
information (I think) that was requested and pasted it below. I hope I

Can you ping each computer from the other?
If not, then you need to inspect the firewall settings.

Thanks, Chuck. I tried to uninstall the NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible
Transport Protocol but was informed that it '...is still required by the
following component(s) and cannot be uninstalled until those components are
uninstalled: Service Advertising Protocol.' I just wanted to double-check
with you before uninstalling the Service Advertising Protocol. Also, I don't
know if it matters at all, but there's an NWLink NetBIOS protocol icon listed
above the IPX/SPX protocol icon.

Ok...uninstalled SAP and the other two NetBIOS things disappeared. Restarted
both computers. Tried to access the desktop from the laptop...same result,
except the error message ended with 'The Network path was not found.'

I forgot to add that there's a QoS Packet Scheduler (checked) in the Local
Area Connection Properties.

Thanks for all the help...it seems like it was a mixture of a lot of things.
I reset my TCI/IP and shut down the aftermarket firewall on my desktop; now
I'm only protected by the Windows firewall. That's ok, right?

Anyway, I finally got it all figured out and can access all of my files and
printer from the laptop.

That right there was probably the problem. Turn off the piece of shit
windows firewall. then u can use your own brand. windows doesn't like
