Streaming video kills internet BOTH pc's
Posted by Robin on October 9th, 2005

I had to wipe and reinstall my XP MCE 2004 install a few weeks ago. Since
the new install, every time I try to watch a streaming video on my machine,
both pc's on my network lose internet connection. We network through a
linksys router, both pc's connected via ethernet. Neither PC can re-connect
to the internet until I reset the router and modem. After the reset, my
roommate's XP machine will connect without a restart. My XP MCE 2004
machine will not reconnect until after I restart. Upon restarting, programs
that automatically connect like Messenger do not connect. When I open
explorer I get the "work offline" or "try again" option. Hit "try again"
and my internet is back. I've tried resetting my browser preferences to not
have videos play in the browser, but still get the same result. I am at a
total loss as to how trying to watch a streaming video causes my entire
network to lose internet. Any ideas?
