I am running a small home network with three desktop (yeah, each kid needed
their OWN) computers and one laptop. One computer is hardwired to my Lyksys
router and the others access the router via wireless dongles. All computers
are using the Windows XP Home OS. When I access the "My Network Places" from
my laptop, all computers show up. However, one computer, which I will call
"J", does not allow me to access its contents as do the others. I only have
a couple of folders on that computer that I wish to share over my network. I
am able, however, to access the printer that is physically attached to it.
Oddly enough, when I am on the "J" computer, I am able to access all shared
folders and printers from the all other computers, but not vice versa.

I have check my firewall settings on the "J" computer and they seem to be
okay. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this computer to share its stuff??

If the firewall on the "J" computer is the Microsoft Windows firewall,
disable it while troubleshooting network connectivity problems, if it's a
third-party firewall fully uninstall it while troubleshooting. Re-install
or re-enable and reconfigure when network connectivity is established.

Thanks for the advice. I thought I would update you on my efforts.

First let me tell you that I feel real stupid. I decided to check my third
party firewall settings before I did anything else. I am using McAfee virus
and firewall software. Sure enough when I check the firewall on McAfee, it
was blocking all outside access to the "J" computer. So I decided to just
check the box and allow access instead of doing the full unistall first. I
was hoping that would take care of the problem. Well, IT DID! I did not
have to uninstall McAfee, I just had to make sure the boxed was checked. Now
all I have to do is find out how and why it was unchecked in the first place,
but that is not going to happen tonight!

Glad I could get you pointed in the right direction. Firewall
misconfiguration is usually the culprit when you have a "can't see one
computer" or "one computer can't see anyone" type problem.
