I got a problem on my older daughter laptop after upgrading to a faster ADSL.
ALL 3 desktops(Pentium2 with Windows Server 2000,Celeron 633 mhz with XP SP2,
3ghz Pentium4 with Server 2003) are continue to work fine.
The desktop my daughter using in the college(with ethernet adapter) continue
to work at the school. When I tried to connect to Westell modem(which is the
also a router it worked fine and I was able to connect and to use Internet.
But when I am trying to connect through Microsoft Broadband 5 port switch it
is unable to connect.
It shows Autoconfigure Ip 169.254.80.xx
It shows mask 255.255.0.0
It shows gateway 168.192.1.254.
It shows that Network speed is 100mbit/sec
I tryed to switch cable connections and it does not matter.
So it seems that some software settings preventing success(because this
computer may be connected to different networks and laptop has 2ghz pentium4
with xp SP2 Home).

Your daughter's laptop is configured to work with the school network
which is different than yours. Your daughter should either use the
Alternate Configuration to set up the network at home or a third-party
multinetwork manager.

But I didn't changed anything with the Westel modem=router and when I m
directly connecting the laptop to it everything works.
It stops only when I connecting laptop to it via Microsoft Networking 10/100
Ethernet 5 port Switch model MN150.
It stoppped to work when I switched from 1.5mb ADSL to 3 mb ADSL and was
working before.
All desktops continue to work with this switch with no problems.
By the way I tried to do an alternate Configuration it wasn't working either.

If the Internet connection works when the machine is directly connected
to the dsl modem and stops working when connected to the switch, swap
out the switch for a known-working one.
