I have followed all the directions and still can not get anything in My
netwok neighborhood. When I "view workgroup computers" it says I might not
have permission to use this service. It is a wired network with only 2
comuters.

Do you have any firewall software running one either pc?

If you really don't want to use a NAT router (are you paying for 2
connections?), then use IPX/SPX for file sharing. But set IPX/SPX up carefully.

Right,

I don't need to connect to the internet. All I wanted to do was to connect
the two together to sychronize outlook files. Eventually I might want to get
on the iinternet, but all I want now is to talk to each other. Do I need a
router? Are the firewall or Norton stopping it?

overlooked personal firewall. There are other possibilities too. Norton

I might be the biggest dummy around, but I really have been working with
computers for some 30 years. I always thought I was pretty good till now.
Thank you for all the help. I downloaded Browstat and read your post about
using the command window. I can not get it to write to a file so I do not
have that. I have done the config all and it is here. 1st the Laptop then
the desktop.

I can not see either on the network neighborhood. I have tried to turn off

Okay, I got rid of that. When I go to my network places it still doesn't
show anything. Should I run the wizard again? If I "View workgroup

If both computers are running Windows XP, they will connect fine, with
everything working, using DHCP.
