- Wireless Network - 2 PCs - Can't share files
- Posted by Jason M on October 8th, 2005
Hi
Can anyone help with this problem. I have two laptop PCs connected to a
D-Link DI624 wireless router, sharing an internet connection with no problems
at all. However, after running the network set-up wizard on each PC with the
goal of sharing files etc, i'm having problems.
Both PCs are being assigned an IP address by the router - and both are
"similar" in terms of IP address range......so no problems here I think.
However, if I go to My Network Places, and try to View Workgroup Computers
option, eventually I get a message (on either PC) saying:
"HOMENET is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the adminstrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions .....etc".
I've set-up shares on the folders etc, but it just seems that something odd
has happened during the set-up. Has anyone got any ideas ? I get a similar
message if I click on the HOMENET network in the Network Places icon in
Explorer.
Help appreciated.

If you're using the Windows Firewall, disable it during network set-up; if
you have a third-party firewall uninstall it (not just disable it, uninstall
it) while setting up the network. When done, reinstall/re-enable firewall
with the correct settings.
