wireless network interface disabled intel centrino 2200BG vs WIAG02
Posted by sfn on February 16th, 2006

Hello

I got a very difficult problem on wirelss networking:
Equipment:
Asus A3 centrino Notebook w/ 2200BG wireless NIC (mini PCI) and WinXP
SP2!
But wireless doesn't work well. Almost no connections. It doesn't
matter where and which
AP or Adhoc network I will connect with. I said almost, because a very
few times it did worked.

Now I've updated to latest Intel Pro 2200BG device drivers for XP.
But after installing, I got this message from the icon tray:

"wireless network interface disbaled"

But the wireless NIC is nowhere disabled! Neither in the network
settings, nor at the HW resources!

Now I changed the whole MiniPCI Intel NIC aganist a
Gigabyte WIAG02
network card (which I made until now good exp. with)

But after rebooting the notebook , first the little centrino splash on
the BIOS disapeared
and after installing the latest driver for WIAG02 I got the same
message on the icon tray of the Gigabyte wireless tool:

"wireless network interface disbaled"

the tool can read out the MAC of the NIC but not more.

so now I'm very confused and I ask myself, where is it disabled?
In registry? In WZC?

If anyone could give me a hint I'd be very appreciated!

Regards

PS: Does this perhaps something todo with the intel wireless console
manager , which enables/disables Bluetooth and WLAN?
If I enable WLAN it doesn't change the situation. Even when I
uninstalled this tool completely.

If you have installed the Intel software to control your wireless card, you
may be having a conflict between the Intel software and the Windows WZC
service. Only one may run at a time, if both are running you will have
problems.

No, I first uninstalled the intel drivers before I was installing the
Gigabyte WIAG02 drivers.
Meanwhile I thing, it's beacuse of the centrino chipset and BIOS which
requires the Intel Pro 2200 BG wireless NIC
