- Workstations disconnects from LAN
- Posted by Matth on February 17th, 2008
I recently upgraded 5 workstations running W2k to XP Pro. All are connected
to a 2003 server. Since the upgrade 2 of the 5 PC's are subject to the
following issue. They drop their connection to the server after several hours
off no activity. This is usually over night and requires a restart the
following morning. 4 of the 5 PC's are identical in hardware specs so I
can't see it being a hardware issue and I have disable the power save feature
that can turn off the NIC to save power.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Try typing "net use" into a cmd prompt, and see if the shares come up as
'disconnected' - if so you may need to adjust the disconnection-timeout on
the server.
For some unknown reason this adversely affects some clients, not others.
