www.amazon.com resolves to 127.0.0.1 , but other names are ok.

www.amazon.com resolves to the loopback address on my XP machine. (sp2
installed)
Key info.

1. Am using a router to share internet connection..other PC's using either
XP or win2K can resolve this name correctly.

2. "ipconfig /all" compares exactly for all machines.

3. "route print" returns same info for all machines.

4. tracert can resolve "amazon.com", but not "www.amazon.com"

Heres the output from ping...

Pinging www.amazon.com [127.0.0.1] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Don't know where to look next...anyone got any ideas?

Brent,

Start with the Hosts file on your computer, and make sure that you identify the
one in use.

Thank you Chuck...didn't realize DNS could be overridden....I had a virus
some months ago..I thought Nortons had cleaned it out....but it seems that
this file remained as a whole heap of names were redirected to the loopback.

You're welcome, Brent. Glad to help. Thanks for letting us know what the
problem was.
