- XP Pro no lan connection
- Posted by Aaron Haspel on February 18th, 2006
Hi all--
I'm running a pretty simple network -- two Windows machines, both
running XP Pro SP 2, plus a printer, all connected to a Linux server
(Red Hat 9.0), which is the only machine connected directly to the web,
via cable modem, and which is the gateway for the other machines. All
the machines are plugged into a single hub. Today I tried to add a new
machine to the network, installing XP Pro SP 2 on it from scratch. Its
ethernet light is on, so it doesn't look like a hardware problem. But
no local connection shows in the Network control panel -- only the 1394
Firewire connection -- and it won't let me add one no matter how I
tamper with it. Running ipconfig /all returns a blank, since the
machine can't see the LAN.
Any suggestions about how to fix or even diagnose this problem would be
very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Aaron Haspel

Check in Device Manager and see if the Ethernet adapter is properly
installed. I suspect that it isn't, possibly because the driver isn't
installed.
