My IE says: HTTP-error 400 - wrong request (in Dutch...) when I type the
adress.

You need to locate yours. See if it has any entries for microsoft.com or windowsupdate in that file. In addition, see if it has any entry for
akamai.net

Akamai.net is used for a small portion of download info for Windows Update.

The "normal" location of Hosts is at
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc (for Windows XP)
or on Win2000 at C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc
Or on Windows 98 at C:\Windows\Hosts

Use Notepad to view contents of *your* Hosts file.

Any lines that have # in the first column, do not count. # indicates a comment line & has no effect.

Hosts file is a text-type file & you can use Windows' Notepad to look at it; and edit, if necessary.

In your Internet Explorer browser> main menu /Tools/Internet Options >

Security Tab/ click on green icon Trusted Sites/click Sites button.
Un-check "Require server verification (https for all sites in this zone" to
*clear* the selection.

In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field, add these entries to list
of "Trusted Sites" --

type
http://www.download.windowsupdate.com (and then click Add )

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com (click Add)

https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com (yes with HTTPS)

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

http://download.windowsupdate.com

*.akamai.net (yes, akamai.net -- )

Click OK.

Found it.

Yes.

I'm very sorry for coming back so late but it took some time...

First, I tried this on the WU Troubleshooting:
"Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot supply the requested
page; Cannot Display Page (Windows XP)"

Got in WU, installed some updates but got also a lot the famous error
0x800A138F / 0x800C0008 again... And it appeared that the registry setting
(CSDVersion) from the solution above changed back to his original state...
Changed it again (and reboot!) and working like a charm. (Later on, I
found out that re-installing SP1 changes the setting back.) And, for the
record, I DO NOT recall removing SP1...

But then, sometimes, I got the message that the servers of WU are
temporarily unavailable.

So, I tried:
"When attempting to access the Windows Update site you receive the following
message: The site is temporarily unavailable"

And I could update again! Only one at the time and skipping SP1 (which is
miraculously appearing again and again) and skipping some other updates
which gave a crash of WU but it's a start. I even tried "Q319109 - WU Site
Lists Updates That You Already Installed" but it doesn't help.

BUT, after all these updates and after keeping trying to connect and update
and trying to install the difficult updates directly (not from WU but from
the article about it) I finally got the message: You are ready - Nothing to
install.

Finally.

Thanks anyway for all the people who took the effort to help me. I will post
this in the hope to help others.

C-Ya,
Mike

Anyone who needs some more info, ask the question. I will try to answer. And
after some days, try to mail me (remove ...).
