- 816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)
- Posted by Robert Gleason on January 25th, 2004
(reply to RLGLeason51(removethis)@cs.com if permitted)
I tried installing this update but got amessage that the
VM base was not installed. I ran the run "cmd" and
type "Jview" and got confirmation of this. What do I
have to do to install the MVM and its update?
This problem came about when, while updating my modem
driver with a bad update, which damaged my modem and
caused windows to act erractically. This problem also
casued my to lose 10 critical updates (the MVM being one
of them)that I had previously downloaded and installed.

I just downloaded and tried to install MSJAVMU.exe and it
still could not install. Said I still needed the base
version of Java. Have I downloaded the wrong file? I
donwloaded the one that said it was for XP.

Hi
Start with the 3805 version, and when it is installed, install the 3810
version.
If that doesn't work out for you, please open a command prompt (e.g. running
cmd.exe from Start/Run) and run jview.exe
Do you then get " 'jview' is not recognized as an internal or external
command," or does it list a version number up in the right corner, and if so,
what number.

Thanks. Where do I find it? I tried a search of MS
downloads (MS JVM and MS JVM 3805) and came up empty.

Hi
3805 is not available at the Microsoft Web site. You will find download links
for 3805 in the URL below (it's marked for Win2000 SP4, but it will install on
WinXP as well). If that one does not want to install, try to install the 3809
version instead (also found at the URL below).

After either 3805 or 3809 is installed, you can install 3810 to get the latest
security update (3810 will not install unless a previous version is installed
first).

Thanks. It worked. No if I knew why my PC fails to
automatically re-start to complete installations..This
also started when my modem blew. I have to manually
restart now.
