- Communication with Windows Update

Which TCP/UDP ports does Windows Update use to communicate in addition to
HTTP?
I have some servers in a DMZ that only have HTTP access outside. They can
go to the Windows Update site but it fails to scan the computers for updates
needed.

I have the same problem with Windows Server 2003 at our office.
I download the (critical) updates at home and installs them manually on the
server.

How can you install the updates manually? I tried with the
files in the folder C:\windows\windows update setup-files\
but these are only .CAB files which i do not know how to
handle, or where to extract to (if i should)

Hello,
I can download all the updates for various os's useing
the catalog from Windows update site. The question is,
how do I install them after they are downloaded? I have
to update several different pc's with multiple os's
installed. I am making a "Update" disk that I can just
pick and choose what os i want to update. I download the
files and I get multiple directorys with exe files for
each update. I can do the manually, but how can I
install all the updates in one shot. The root of the
directory has one XML file in it. I am assuming that is
the key script, but how do I run it?

DMZ needs both port 80 and 443 enabled for both incoming and outgoing
traffic

I finally found the information.
The PC must have access to both tcp port 80 and 443 for Windows Update to
run.
I hope this helps.
