- critical updates and all updates won't install
- Posted by heytrubble on August 2nd, 2003
going to the microsoft site all goes well from the
searching for XP critical updates/service packs/drivers--
identifies 24 needed---even doing one at a time, the
download progress bar shows completion but the bar for
install progress goes no where no matter how many hours I
wait (even just for a 2MB download). They never install
and never request I restart. Why? Do I have something set
wrong? Is there a certain order to do these in i.e.
Serive Packs first then criticals or drivers, etc)?
Please help...I know that I desparately need to get this
updated for security reasons and more!

Do a search on your system for catroot2 folder, if you have it , delete it,
clean out your c:\documents & settings\<you>\local settings
temp directory
c:\windows\temp and c:\temp as well
reboot
try windows update again
