Cumulative Patch for IE6 SP1 October: KB828750-Installed or not installed?
Posted by Eliuri on November 15th, 2003

I use Windows ME

At the Windows Update site I am told that there are no critical updates for
me to install. I also see KB828750 [the October cumulative patch for IE
6SP1] as successfully installed when I look at the installation history.

However, at the Help--->About of my IE , I see IE 6.0 SP1 as well as two
othe updates listed but I do not see the KB828750 listed there. Nor do I see
it under Add/Remove in the Control Panel.

Just to be sure I tried installing that patch manually using the
q828750.exe. [with the NAV temporarily disabled] and I get a message stating
that this update cannot be installed unles IE6.0 SP is already installed.
The installation doesnt proceed..

I read a list of the relevant system files of that patch elsewhere on these
boards:
mshtmal.dll shdocvw.dll shlwapi.dll Urlman.dll.
They are all found in the windows system files on my PC at prety much the
same sizes indicated in that post.

How can I ascertain if the KB828750 is truly installed or not , given these
ambiguities?

Hi again:

I just read the following Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-048 regarding the
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (824145)

"This update replaces the one that is provided in Microsoft Security
Bulletin MS03-040, which is itself a cumulative update."

The above-mentioned bulletin pertains to the KB828750.

It occurs to me that since I already have the Q824145 installed as indicted
on the IE browser Help-->About and by the Control Panel Add/Remove that this
patch merely supercedes that October 828750 patch. This might explain why I
don't see the KB828750 on the browser help option.

Is this a reasonable conjecture?
