- Deploying Microsoft Updates
- Posted by Network Tech on November 7th, 2003
I was wondering if anyone knows anything about deploying
updates throughout a network. I would like to be able to
download windows updates to one machine, then distribute
all the updates to the rest of the machines in my network
from that machine. Or at least have the machines on my
network look at the one machine and download them
automatically without going to the windows update site.
Thanks for any help

I forget to add this info, I will not be able to use the
SUS package. I have mostly 98 machines with a few 2000
and XP machines. I also have a non-windows OS on my
servers.

Hi
Here is a third party product that supports Win98:
PatchLink's Update

From http://www.patchlink.com/support/documents/PUW4.html :
"This white paper describes the features of PatchLink Update 5.0, a new
solution for managing and distributing critical patches that resolve known
security vulnerabilities and other stability issues in all Microsoft operating
systems (95, 98, ME, NT, W2K, XP, .NET), UNIX (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX,
etc.), and Novell Netware. PatchLink Update 5.0 is the only patch detection
and deployment software available for managing these heterogeneous network
environments. This paper also includes solutions for customer scenarios which
incorporate PatchLink Update."
