For the last few days when rebooting my computer, the desktop
wallpaper has been disappearing. I can go into Desktop Properties
and reselect an image to use (I've been using bitmap ones, not jpg),
and then it displays fine again until I reboot. After rebooting,
the background is blank again.
I've checked my registry, and it seems the item for
My Computer/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Desktop/Wallpaper
is being deleted somehow (after rebooting, the "Wallpaper" item
doesn't show up at all; it's not just blanked out such as when
you specifically select "None" as the background image).
I've got Windows 2000 Professional. It seems this has been
happening since Windows Update installed the security update for
KB832483. There didn't seem to be any problems during that install.
I've read several posts about people having problems with
KB832483, but none with this symptom. Has anyone else had this
problem? Or know how to fix it?
