Anyone else experiencing problems with SB Audigy after installing the
DirectX patch 819696? I don't know for sure, and couldn't uninstall the
patch to test, but I lost my surround sound (could only get 2 speaker stereo
for MP3 and WAV playback, even tho' Audigy's surround test indicated all
speakers functional). I also lost all presets (equalizer, environmental,
EAX).
Since this happened after applying this update, and it does concern
multimedia, I was wondering if there might be a correlation, and if anyone
else has had trouble. Or maybe some other, unrelated bug crawled into my
system, I dunno.
Fortunately, I was able to restore an image of my C:\ drive and all seems
well, but I sure am leery about re-installing those updates.

David,
That was the first thing I looked at, since, at times, it resets itself to
quadrophonic. Not in this case. It was still set to 5.1, but, curiously, in
the Creative Surround Mixer, while the speaker test functioned OK, there was
no longer a pull-down list of speaker config options -- only 5.1. So that,
coupled with the loss of all of the presets and nothing at all listed in the
EAX Control panel, was a real puzzle. Re-installing the drivers and AudioHQ
didn't help.
I didn't know if the update was to blame or not, which is why I asked. Good
to know. Thanks.
