Dave Herman has asked for the errors reported in Windows Update.log
Here is one instance from many that I got:

2003-07-31 20:27:15 03:27:15 Error IUENGINE See iuhist.xml
for details: Download finished (Error 0x80070017: Data error (cyclic
redundancy check).)

Evidently I was getting this error when trying to download automatically
via the Windows Update facility. However, when I went to the support
documents that described each update, I was able to download and install
the updates (essentially manually, rather than with the automated update
method).

What firewall are you using ? That *appears* to be the issue with
Automatic Updates. Setting your proxy to Netproxy is mentioned as one
solution ... are you on a proxy server ?
