Downloading and installing drivers
Posted by Bob on March 6th, 2004

I was downloading & installing critical updates, SPs and
drivers listed for my computer in Update for Winfows XP
Home Edn. All went O.K. until the final driver. it was
downloading until I missed the 'Auto disconnect' warning
& my connection was closed. I immediately reconnected &
dialogue box appeared in which progress indicator went to
point reached at shut down and would not progress
further. After few minutes, I cancelled and tried again.
The prgress indicator went to original point reached
again and also showed 1 minute of download left to
complete. It hung again. I've tried a few more times -
no change. I couldn't find any similar situjation in
Support pages but did follow directions
to 'WindowsUpdate.log'.
In there I found following error messages (for each
failure): "Date...time...time...Error..IUENGINE...See
iuhist.xml for details: Download finished(Error
0x8007000B: An attempt was made to load a program with
an incorrect format.)"
As I'm trying to download&install a driver update
recommended by Microsoft for my computer, I'm totally
confused. I've no idea what 'iuhist.xml'refers to -
Seacrh doesn't find it but guess it relates to some kind
of 'history???'.
Anyone got the answer?

I'm not sure what to tell you about your exact error messages, but I suggest
that you *never* download driver updates from WU - they can cause problems.
If you need a driver, do to the hw mfr's website and download it directly
from there.
