problem and I tried several ways to repair.
First find what type of browser you use, then go to
microsoft and find the download section from there you
choose your browser to download, when you start downloading
you choose to customise your browser, you see the list of
what to install and try to think what will be affect in
your case and don't forget to click your browser. Then
start downloading.
good luck

....and if you can't access the sites you refer to, then
what? I've tried various settings for SSL, and nothing
works. I even tried following the broken english
directions posted after your useless post.

You are nasty. Her post was useful. You really deserve what you have.

Sorry bout my reply, was very frustrated. BTW, I've fixed
computer problems for friends and family who work for MS,
which MS reps couldn't fix, and run slackware and Debian
on the machines I use the most at home.
Here's what I ended up doing today, after sleeping off my
frustration.
Cipher strength was "0", not good, and attempting to fix
it via Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 261328 failed due
to some other problem, so I resorted to uninstalling
IE6SP1, then re-installing it using the "Ie" folder on a
MSN 8 disk. This fixed the ciper strength (now 128) but
still wasn't able to access https sites and still got
error 0x800C0005 at Windows Update site.
Tried setting all security and privacy settings to
low/minimum, still no work.
Gave up, installed Mozilla, couldn't even access the
internet with it, but could ping mozilla.org successfully
from a command prompt. (big clue)
Found that Norton Internet Security was installed, but
damaged and wouldn't load.
Downloaded 30 day trial of RegSupreme from maceware, of
jv16powertools fame.
Edited scanreg.ini, change MaxBackupCopies to 15, save and
close.
Backed up registry with scanregw.
Renamed all Symantec and Norton folders and subfolders in
Program Files and Windows directories.
Ran RegSupreme; since it couldn't locate the files that
all the Symantec and Norton entries in the registry
pointed to, they came up as invalid entries; deleted them,
saying yes to backup before delete. (BTW, this is more
effective way to uninstall Symantec or Norton than built-
in uninstaller anyway)
Reboot, try connecting with Mozilla, success.
Open IE, go to any https site, success.
Go to Windows Update, click Scan for updates, success.
Apparently part of Norton Internet Security includes
script blocker, which works better than it should, even if
the program is broken.
Installing ZoneAlarm next.
Thanks for all your wonderful advice and help.

I apologized for my nasiness in another post, and I'm
happy to say that the machine I'm working on (fixed, see
other post) isn't mine. I build all my own machines, and
run various flavors of *nix on most of them, but I'm still
wondering how her post was useful. The original poster
couldn't complete the transaction at the Windows Update
site, and gets error 0x800C0005, and instead of offering a
fix, sends him to a couple of secure web sites, which
almost certainly won't load. This reminded me of techs I
used to work with at a call center who handled large
volumes of service calls, satisfying the true motive of
the company which was profit not service, by telling
customers to run scandisk regardless of the nature of the
problem. Those customers always called back, and unless
they got somebody who actually helped them fix their
problem, would ultimately be 'escalated' when they called
back for the fifth time and were furious with
the 'service' they'd been getting.
That and my frustration with the problem plus great
fatigue caused me to post what I did, which was obviously
even less useful, but felt good at the moment.
No harm was intended, just expressing frustration.
Apologies again to any I may have offended.

That's OK it happens. We do the weirdest things when we're fatigued.

I have a fix for this issue it seems but as you got it fixed I'd love to know what you did. Thx.
