Hi- open to suggestions. After windows update starts to
look for updates; I get that error number, and am directed
to change my pc date/time. They too are right.
thanks in advance gang!!

try this

go to control panels/folder options/view tab and make sure that 'Hide
extensions for known file types' is not ticked

then restart computer in safe mode (F8 during boot up)

then go here C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

look for a file called hosts (NO extension) there might be others that do
have an extension, just leave them

rename the file to something like hostsold

then restart computer and try windows update again

if it works then there is an address in the hosts file thats causing it
(possibly containing the akamai site)

hth
