- Ethics of link fudging/icky things
- Posted by MrZaius on August 22nd, 2003
My apologies in advance if this isn't an appropriate place to ask this
question.
Would it be ethical for a group developing an IM client or browser to alter
links to Amazon and other sites that pay for referals to indirectly get
funds from users (in place of donations, advertisements, proprietary
versions and plug-ins). Obviously it would be inappropriate to remove
pre-existing referal tags, but where no such tag is present, might it be
just barely not-inappropriate-enough? If not, then what if the user were
given a way to disable the "feature"?
