- File Locations for Windows Update?
- Posted by Brian Rodeck on September 29th, 2003
Is there a way to specify the download destination for patch files?
Perhaps a more general question is whether a patch is tem[porarily
downloaded, installed, the deleted?
TIA for your help!

If you are allowing Window Update to download and install the patch then you
have little/no control over location etc as they are not retained in a
usable fashion post install.
If you want to save the file to a know location to use at a later time, use
the Windows Catalog on Windows Update (please note you have to enable this
function in the personalize section of Windows Update

Thanks for the quick reply, Mike.
I have a similar question posted in the Software Update Service forum. My
real concern is if I use SUS to update my Win2K servers - I didn't take into
account any need to store huge files like SVC Pack 4 on the server. What
happens to them when they're downoaded to the server?
My preferred scenario is to have big service packs download to a Patches
volume, then apply. Are you aware of any way to do this?
Thanks,
Brian
