Getting involved in linux development and testing

Hi,

I'm interested in getting involved in development and testing on linux
systems - interested in most technology but *if pushed* would say most
interest lies in server processes (not a gui person). Have some
experience with java, been reading up on LAMP servers and also
interested in system programming. Went on to google expecting to find
loads of hits when I typed "linux volunteer development" but could not
find much. Any pointers people out there could give me would be
appreciated. Work time is spent with bespoke unix distros and Windoze
and I need something more challenging / interesting in the evening to
keep me sane / curious .......

Any advice appreciated.
