IDE HDs & Q273017?

This fix being hawked as helpfulness, if I understand
the 'effort' in defining who needs it, implies if either
unwarranted ScanDisks or requests not sent to SCSI
miniports during shutdown are reasons to need the update
and registry tweaking, then would someone kindly tell me.

I'm running Win98SE on a couple of 6 yr old laptops that
list SCSI controllers/Adaptec AIC-7850 PCI SCI controller
and Hard Disk controllers/Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard
Disk Controllers, but how do I know if I'm even using the
stuff and if it is relative to the fix? The SCSI thingy's
don't install until after I docked to a station for one
laptop.

Whatever the answers are, I only ran across the SCSI
reference once during my Win98SE reinstall which stumped
me as to what to enter when asked if I was using this
stuff? Answered no, but later saw I have the stuff on dev.
mgr. list. So did my reinstall then miss something as a
result of my saying no to using SCSI stuff for the install?

If I could find much of anything using the so called
knowledgebase, I'd certainly look there for some answers
but it seems very user unfriendly, a 'bit' of a lame
search engine one may presume? Or is there some secret to
using it?

If affording interest and support to these questions, does
anyone also know what docking stations usually have in
them, maybe stuff allowing higher speeds of bps, etc.?
Mine came w/o any cards or extra components, just a lot of
plug-ins, empty slots and a large opening looking like a
burner or CD changer should go in it. Got off subject,
sorry.

Finally, as MS' also denotes "..requests not sent to SCSI
miniports during shutdown.." and such implies perhaps data
is being lost perhaps without ScanDisk running needlessly,
so does this mean one may still need the fix despite no
unwarranted ScanDisks?
