intel update from jan..27 won't download. from review & install
Posted by lynda on February 15th, 2004

I have been updating regularily, but suddenly I get a
update from jan. 27/02. It is the intel processor
software update. I have tried to update 4 times now. It
completely downloads, and starts to install then says
that it failed. I have shut down all firewalls, as well
as the avg 6 anti-virus, to no help. why won't it
install?

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having this
problem. Just like you I have been updating regularily &
all of a sudden this Intel driver update for P3 from
January 2002 shows up and every time I try to install it I
get a failed message.

I have looked into my device manager and it says, under
processors> Intel(r) Celeron(r) Processor then when
clicked on provider:microsoft driver date: 1/07/2001
driver version: 5.1.2535.0 publisher: microsoft

I have tried everything I can think of to get the Intel driver to install
just like the rest of you.
Perhaps one of the MVPs on here will be able to help with this one.

Hi folks,

I can't tell you what this update does or why it is appearing only
now. But I can tell you why it fails. If you download it directly and
not by the means of the automatic windows mechanism, you will see that
it simply is a .cab file and no .exe. So it can't extract itself. You
would have to install the files manually.

Thanks for the info. I was able to install the driver
manually. I found the downloaded file on my c drive at
Wutemp\PUBNAME.2088585\. In device manager, Intel
processor, I choosed manually install driver and manually
find driver. In the directory I described above I found
p3qfe.inf and installed the driver, rebooted & I have had
no adverse affects since then.
