- latest ie patch 822925
- Posted by Robert on August 22nd, 2003
After downloading this patch every went screwy. Every
time I try to open a window on desktop get message that my
current security settings prohibit running activex
controls on this page. As a result, the page may not
display correctly. Also at the bottom of the window is
the symbol and words restricted sites zone. I went to ie
and looked at my settings. All still the same as they
were. What in the world happened and how do I correct
it. Am running 98SE and ie 5.5 as I had problems with 6.0
when I downloaded it a month ago.
Help - this is so frustrating.

822925 is causing varying problems from file deletion, to permissions
corruption. I am experiencing major permissions problems.
The error I get upon trying to open any executable file is:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have
the appropriate permission to access the item"
None of my startup items load, including my Antivirus. Now what is so
strange, is these issues are NOT happening to everybody. I found a temporary
workaround until MS can get this fixed. It sounds stupid, but it works. Boot
into the affected account. Load My Computer. Log off and back on to that
account and everything works fine.

Hello Robert,
The following is taken from the Windows Update troubleshooter:
Problem Description:
This message is displayed when your security setting in Internet Explorer is
set too high. For Windows Update to work properly, you must change the
security settings for the Internet zone to Medium or lower.
Resolutions:
Open Internet Explorer
1. Click on Tools from the top menu bar
2. Click on Internet Options in the drop down menu
3. Click on the Security tab
4. Click on the Internet Zone icon
5. To adjust your security level, click Default Level or Custom Level.
6. Try setting the Custom level to Low and see if the ActiveX error
persists.
Another approach is to add the following domain names to the Trusted Sites
Zone:
http://Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://Download.Windowsupdate.com
To add these sites, follow these steps:
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click Tools / Internet Options
3. Click the Security Tab
4. Click on the Trusted Sites Icon
5. Click on the Sites button.
6. Add the domains listed above.
