- Linux Robots -- It Moves
- Posted by mlw on January 31st, 2004
Well, ladies and gentlemen, the Linux robot moves. Here's what we got so
far:
Motor amplifier, a PWM motor amplifier system which takes a +-5 analog
signal to control the wheels. The more plus voltage the faster the wheels
move forward, the more negative voltage, the faster the wheels move
reverse, 0 volts, stop.
A velleman K8000 digital I/O board is sending the signal to the motor
amplifier. I had to rig up an opamp circuit to center the voltage range og
the 0-5V output of the velleman D/A converter to go to -5V to +5V.
The test program is easy enough, using a numeric keypad:
7 Inc Left 8 Inc left+right 9 Inc Right
4 Inc spin left 5 Set speed to 0 6 Inc spin right
1 Dec left 2 Dec Left+right 3 Dec Right
I have a Logitech quick cam mounted on it. It is a bit slow to say the
least, I'll have to do something about it.
I have to say, this was EASY to build because of Linux. All the tools and
infrastructure is there.
xawtv for the video
ssh for access
Linux for the OS.

Are you going to put the details, plans etc, up on a webpage somewhere?

You've got me hooked, anyway. I'll await this with bated breath.
Or is that "baited"?
