I think Windows and Linux are 'about' right where they are
supposed to be. Computers have always been very complex machines.
Microsoft over the years, has 'dumbed down' computers and
internet use greatly to allow 'Joe Blow user' to be able to use
computers. This is all fine to me because I make money from 'Joe
Blow' everytime his Windows system crashes in repair work. Linux
really assumes that a computer user knows something about
computers (what a concept) and because of the open-source nature
behind Linux, the user assumes all responsibility for learning
more and maintaining their systems (again - users being
responsible for their own systems - what a concept).
The bickering I find on a lot of these N.G.'s comes from that
same 'Joe Blow' user who is used to having his O.S. and software
spoon fed to him. "What, no Start button? No Windows Update? What
a piece of crap."
The way I see it, people who don't know anything about computers
(or don't care to learn) should continue running Windows and stop
whinning about system bugs, crashes, and the like. If you ask
someone else to drive for you, don't bitch if they are not
driving you're way. Like the previous post from the Windows
System Admin. who installed Linux on some machines and felt
compelled to whine because Linux didn't work for him. Nothing
pisses me off more than a sys. admin. (with the job and pay that
he's making) that doesn't know anything but Windows. Again, no
Start button?
I look at Linux as a high-end system. Like Polk audio is to
Kraco, there is a place for Windows and a place for Linux. Let
the innocent, "dumb-ass" computer user use Windows and sys.
admin. their way right to Windows Update for help. I for one will
stick with the power and stability of Linux and continue to laugh
at Windows, Windows users, and their "Sys. Admins."
