Linux with WebSphere on Dell
Posted by Subhodini Fernandes on August 10th, 2003

I have setup WebSphere 4.x on a Dell 26xx box with RedHat Linux 8.0.
After starting up WebSphere it simply hangs in a matter of 30min to an
hour. Problem is that I do not get any error. The system simply hangs
- I cannot type anything at the console or move the mouse and I cannot
ping it from the network.

Any ideas on how to go about troubleshooting this problem ?

Thanks,
Subho.

WAS isn't supported on RH 8, but...
how are you starting WAS? I can't think of anything (other than CPU
maxed out) that could hang the mouse or take down networking. How much
RAM do you have?

Hi Ken,

Is it mentioned anywhere that RH8 does not support WAS ? I have 2 CPUs
and 2GB RAM - quite enough for WAS !

The problem with this system is that it seems to freeze or hang after
starting up WAS. How do I go about troubleshooting a Linux system
freeze/hang ? It does not show any error in /var/log/messages.

Thanks,
Subho.
